Recording my own history
I became involved after I was asked to write a piece about my early years at school on the estate for a book that was being written about the South Oxhey Estate.
As I had moved onto the estate in 1948 and had gone to school here, worked here, married locally and after the birth of my children, worked for a further 31 years as Bursar /Secretary in a local Primary School, I have quite a lot of local knowledge and I still live on the estate.
Once I started writing it went to several pages. I forwarded it to the editor of the book and it was suggested that I contacted the Library to add some of it to the new website which was ‘under construction’.
Meeting members of the Our Oxhey group
I made inquiries at the Library and was invited to a meeting which I did not realise at the time was ‘hands on Editors training’. I really did not think that I would enjoy this but everyone was welcoming and learning about the site interesting and I have now been involved since 2011. I have also added some of my memories of the estate from 1948 – 2017, I am also passing the word around about the website to others in the area and further afield who have connections with the estate.
