Our Oxhey volunteers visited Bushey Museum in April 2015 to explore and find out if there was anything there about Oxhey (or New Bushey as it was once known).

We found the following things interesting:

  • Ted Ray – information and photos about Edward “Ted” Ray (1877-1943) who retired from Oxhey Golf Club in 1941.  He won the 1912 Open in Muirfield and the 1920 Open in Toldeo.
  • Oxhey Rural Pig Club – based at the Piggery, Green Lane, Oxhey in 1942, the Hon Sec was DGW Acworth or Oxhey Warren, Oxhey.
  • A copy of the “New Bushey Gospel Messenger”
  • Bushey & South Watford Baptist Church – information and photos about this church which was built in Lower Paddock Road in 1864.

There is much more to see at Bushey Museum so please visit and help them to preserve the history of the area for future generations.
