The main watercourse here is Hartsbourne Stream, viewed looking upstream. Oxhey Stream joins it through the channel to the left. There is of course the mandatory rusting hulk of an old engine (lawnmower?) in the bed.

  • Mutton Wood was part of the Braziers dairy land that was recently sold. It formed part of lot 4 – dont know if it was actually sold and may still belong to the Brazier family at Brightwells farm in Watford

  • Please can anyone tell me who owns Mutton Wood which is being ruined by off-road bikers?

  • Try Three Rivers District Council.

  • I believe this picture of Hartsbourne Stream is looking down stream towards Oxhey Lane, and Carpenders Park Cemetery, and the feeder stream on the left is the one that runs from Mutton Wood. The location, if I am correct, is at the bottom left hand corner of the first field which runs parallel to Oxhey Lane behind Brazier’s farm. Also, where that scrap metal is on the right is an entry point from a drainage ditch which starts from the spinney. The Hartsbourne Steam was a great attraction for us, and was near to our homes in Carpenders Avenue. We enjoyed making dams to drive our wooden water propellers.
