Shut the box in the Haydn
After work in the Haydn Arms
By Phil
After work on a Friday, when the pubs didn’t open until 5pm, we used to meet up at the Haydn Arms for a few pints and a game of Shut the Box. We used to play for 5p a game, which wasn’t a lot even in the 80s. The loser had to buy the drinks.
Traditional pub games
That was the only pub I knew with proper pub games like dominoes, shove hapenny, skittles and of course darts.
The landlady was Jan and the landlord was Keith. I was quite sad to drive past and see it is now houses.
