Friendly shopping in the 1960s
Barkers mobile grocery van
By S Jones
I remember the Barkers mobile grocery van. I found it fascinating and a real novelty, with friendly service and the owner in a white coat. It became a familiar sight. And I used to love to go inside and just look and see all the different things for sale. It was used very widely locally.

I remember the Barker’s Grocery Can coming down Anthony Close Oxhey
I remember it so well as I used to work on the Barkers van as a young lad. I recall having to take the pre-ordered grocery’s to the doors and also serve in the van.
He used to stop outside our house in Muirfield Road handy for sweets if mum had any spare money very rare in those days, still fun see a coach carrying food.
