  • Yan Yean Cottages behind 17 to 23 Upper Paddock Road, Oxhey were demolished in 1934/5
Yan Yean is Melbourne’s oldest reservoir, supplying the city with its first water supply. Construction began in 1853, when Victoria’s gold rush was in full flight. When completed in 1857, it was the world’s largest artificial reservoir and Australia’s first major dam. Sourced from the Plenty River, a tributary of the Yarra, Yan Yean is still one of Melbourne’s major suppliers of water today.

  • Where were these cottages. Lower or Upper Paddock road. The only cottages they resemble are the old railway cottages near the village green. Any ideas?
