Tea cakes and memories

My husband was in  The the airforce.  I was 16 and he was 19 when I met him.  We got engaged and we didn’t want to live with our families.  I was 22 when we married and we lived with his family in Notting Hill.

My home

I put my name down for a council house and 9 months married we got a one bedroom flat in Otley Way.  My baby boy suffered with asthma.  We went to Great Ormond Street and the doctor said he needed a bedroom of his own.  So we got a house in Oxhey Lane that backed on to Oxhey Woods, so he got worse.  Then we got a 3 bedroom house and I’m still there now.  All my memories are in that house.

My eldest daughter is 68, she was 5 or 6 when we moved into our house.  My husband had a favourite chair and if anyone else tried to sit in it he’d say “that’s my chair”
