Memories

South Oxhey was a great place to live

By Geoff Holt

I did not arrive in South Oxhey until 1964 and I went to Clarendon (later Sir James Altham) School. Because my dad was in the navy I had travelled extensively until he left the navy and we found ourselves in South Oxhey.

The strange thing about the place is that it leant itself to building strong friendships that have endured until today. The community spirit was strong and we all “mattered”

My best loved friends are my school friends, Roy Lord, Jenny Clay, Bill Monohan, Dave Strong. And we remain that way. Bill & Jen live in Suffolk, Roy lives in Spain, I am in Gibraltar and Dave is the nomad but knows where we all are. There are many other “mates” and the point I am trying to make is although I have no pictures, I have memories and images in my mind of people, places and events that have helped shape my life. South Oxhey was a great place to live and of course my time there was the best time. Much as all others will tell you.

I hope the spirit survives the physical changes and the place continues to help shape peoples lives.
