My Early Memories

Baby Clinic

Mrs Jean Taylor

I used to take my baby to Oxhey Place to collect baby food from the clinic there before it burned down.

We had a farm shop nearby in Oxhey Lane and a Dairy. At the bottom of Carpenders Avenue there was a Greengrocer’s, Fishmonger’s, a Hardware shop, 2 Estate Agents and a General Store as well at the Post Office and News Agents.

Some of the trains came from London direct without changing at Harrow.

My family helped to raise money for the rebuilding of All Saints Church.  They were married and their children were christened in the old building.

Sainsbury’s and Boot’s at South Oxhey were very popular, we miss them.

  • I was born in Carpenders Park and lived there from 1958 until 1981 when I got married. I loved it there and have many happy memories. I am trying to remember the name of the shops there in the 1960s&1970s. I think the Newsagent/Post Office was Farrs and the butchers Bramwells. I remember a greengrocers, estate agents, hardware shop, launderette and I think a much smaller food shop than there is today. If you can help with this it would be wonderful. Loving all the memories on here.
