Laurie hopes to marry next April in Africa
Monday 10th - Sunday 16th December 1900
Monday 10th December
Frost and foggy this morning came on wet in the evening. Stayed on again till 8-30. Nothing much to note.
Tuesday 11th December
Dull but not rain. Stayed on till 8-30. The work is fearful heavy I don’t know how many more nights I have got to stay.
Wednesday 12th December
Fine morning, drizzling rain came on in the evening. I stayed on till 7 then went and did a little shoppig. Bought some insertions and bebe velvet to make some Christmas presents. Caught a train at Camden Town which just managed to miss the 8-34 at Willesden, so I had nearly half-an-hour to wait which I did not like very much. Had a letter from Laurie this morning to say she had got home.
Thursday 13th December
Still rather dull but no rain. I actually came away from the Office at five o’clock tonight. I went to Highbury found Laurie looking very well after her journey. We had a nice little chat but nine o’clock soon came and I had to hurry off to catch the train home. I arrived home at 10-30. Laurie gave me an ostriches egg and one or two relics of the War. She expects to go back to Africa all being well next April to be married.
Friday 14th December
Weather colder and finer. I caught the 5-9 train home. After tea I finished the letter to Nell that began last Saturday. Went out and posted it, called in at Fred’s for a few minutes. Afterwards I was very busy making up things for Christmas presents.
Saturday 15th December
Fine today the sun has been shining and has dried up some of the mud. Home at 2 o’clock had dinner and then was on to finishing the things I was making last night. When it was too dark to work we had tea then Mother and I went up to Lil’s and Flo’s. I had not been to Lil’s for 3 weeks and Flo’s not very much. I got back in time for the prayer meeting.
Sunday 16th December
Nice and fine again today. Mother and I have had a quiet day, we had no one here and we have not been out anywhere. I have been to School morning and afternoon. Flo, Charlie and the children have been to Mr S Nash’s to tea.
