Harvest Festival

Monday October 1st - Sunday October 7th 1900

Monday October 1st

Not so wet as yesterday but very dull and threatening. I got home at 6. Mary was not at home so Mrs Dillon next door asked me to go in there to tea. I went with Miss Willis to the Harvest Festival service and supper at Mr Wood at the Congregational Chapel. Mr Spufford walked home with us.

Tuesday October 2nd

Weather still unsettled. Got home at 6.30, went to C.E. meeting.

Wednesday October 3rd

A little finer today. I did not go to the service tonight but went to see Lil and Flo instead.

Thursday October 4th

Fine morning but heavy rain storms this afternoon then cleared up again. Did not get home till 7 as we managed to just miss the 5-40. After a cup of tea I came up home to practise over something I am going to sing tomorrow night then went to choir practise.

Friday October 5th

Dull and unsettled and heavy rain this afternoon. Got home at 6.30. Went to Pentecostal Meeting. Tilly and I sang a duet. Mother came home this evening after being away a month. She was glad to get home again for the noise of the children at Lil’s seemed almost more than she can stand.

Saturday October 6th

A lovely day the wind rather high but not cold. I stayed on at the Office till 1-30 then I went to Cousin Clara’s to call for Amy who came from Bexhill last Saturday and has been staying there since and is now coming to spend a week at Bushey. We caught the 3-40 from Euston. Uncle Alf came down by the same train and we took them up to see Lil and Flo. Uncle went back by the 8-34 train, after seeing him off Amy and I went down to the prayer meeting for a little while.

Sunday October 7th

A most lovely day again. I was able to go out in my white dress both morning and evening. It was quite hot in the middle of the day. We had the annual missionary meeting today. We had a good gathering all day. Mr Stapleton of the Congo took the morning and afternoon. Mr Hunt of Callowland Chapel in the evening. After school Lily, Amy and I went to Bushey churchyard and after Chapel in the evening went up to Flo’s and stopped to supper.
