St Martins Church was built in Muirfield Road in the early 1950’s and served the area with a flourishing range of uniformed organisations  for many years – Brownies – Cubs – Guides – Scouts – Boys Brigade and Youth Clubs.

The Church building had an extra wing added to it later.  The Church was later demolished and the site was used for a new St Martins Church and the area around it used for new housing which forms St Martins Close.

  • I was married in St Martins in 1970. I lived in Ashridge Drive and went to Greenfields and then Hampden. Am now retired and live in Dorset. Have been trying to find out what happened to Christine Holliway.

  • Are there any pictures of the inside of either St. Martins or All Saints church.? I was confirmed in All Saints church in my guide uniform, probably in 1961. I went to Guides at the Methodist Church.
We lived in three places in South Oxhey, first in Hayling Road, then Prestwick Road. I went to Greenfields CP School and then to Clarendon.

  • My mother was a Girl Guide’s leader and so I was a Brownie …at St Martin’s Church. I remember Mrs Booth. I was supposed to go to the Sunday school at St Martin’s but used to play in the grounds, enter by the back door and out the front in time to collect my Sunday School stamp for attendance!

  • Can’t believe St.Martin’s has gone. I used to go to church & sunday school there in the 1950’s & early 1960’s, It’s been many years since I’ve been back. There seems to be many changes, I used to live in Muirfield Road, I expect that has all changed too.

  • I was married at the old church in 1977. I wonder if people can name themselves at the wedding of Audrey Treacy and Herbie Hoy?

  • I helped remove the cross from the wall at the side of the old church with Sgt Bob Keen from Oxhey Police station. It was rotten and in poor condition and was taken to the Baptist church in North Watford on the roof of a mates Austin Maxi – looked very strange!
