Read the Story of Edith Frost born in 1907 in a house at the bottom of Chalk Land near to Bushy Arches. Edith reminiscence’s about the fire station, police phone box, the ambulance taking residents to the little cottage hospital in Vicarage Road.
Benskins Brewery had a horse drawn fire engine, it was a marvellous sight to see them galloping by with the fireman in their brass helmets.
Opposite her home was the Railway Tavern Public House which Mr Luckett ran. She also talks about the games the children played and the walks the family went on in Attenborough Fields as well as the picnics they had with the pearly King and Queen.
Edith also talks about all the shops at the bottom of Chalk hill and the school she attended which was Oxhey School.
