Shopping on the estate in the 1950's

Tea cakes and memories

I moved to the estate in 1975 and my friend Hetty who lived next door to me told me that in the 1950’s there were no roads in Prestwick Road and she saw the houses being built opposite where we live now.

There were no shops so she used to walk to Hatch End to get any shopping she needed. At the railway station you used to have to stop the train by sticking your hand or foot out if you wanted to get on!
